Benefiting from Soft Water Throughout The Home

There are many people in our society that might not have access to city water. If you live out in a rural area, you might even have a well for your water supply. If this is the case, you should definitely look into a water softener system if you don’t have one already. You can get one that uses a concentration of salt to get rid of minerals from your water, but they also have salt free systems that use potassium instead. If you are on a low sodium diet, this would definitely be the option you would want to go with since the salt does get into the drinking water slightly. The way these softeners work is they are basically a type of filter.

They use a process called regeneration to filter out all the bad minerals in your water you don’t want in there. The three parts of a water softener system are the mineral tank, the brine tank, and the control valve. Those with a smaller house might want to get a single cabinet system. This is where there is a single cabinet for the mineral tank and brine tank, but there is still a separate tank for each. Larger models have a completely different tank for each.

Hard water is the broad term for water that comes from the ground with all the minerals in it that was picked up from the earth. Minerals such as magnesium and calcium can cause several different problems. A water softening system can remove the calcium and prevent limescale. Calcium is the thing that causes the white chalky buildup or water spots on your dishes, and it can even damage your pipes.

Any minerals that are left behind can eventually clog the pipes; which is why getting a water softener is something highly recommended. Another problem is black staining on your bathtubs, sinks, or toilets. Or you might have rust stains on your tubs or toilets caused by iron. Probably one of the worst problems that a water softener system can fix is that rotten egg smell. No one enjoys that, and that in itself is a great reason to get a water softener right away. Another great benefit is the fact that soft water is a lot easier to lather and even rinse the soap away from your body and hair. That could even mean shorter showers and a lower water bill.

The best quality system that filters out practically everything there might be in water that is hazardous or unwanted. Price is not a big issue here.

My softener goes off once every 2 weeks. So where is the water stored during that time? When I need water it comes from wells in the city into my house into the hot water heater. This holds 30 gallons but I must use more than that in that peiod of time plus it gets replaced with new water. I’m totally confused on this subject.

"Would you mind helping me to make a home made but reliable water purifying system.,and should be economical as well?.."…

Thanks in advance for every body.

I need to know if there are any minerals left in the water, and if this cures hard water. Any other differences?

My New Water Filtering System Plus Shower Option. Thanks goes to Richtheridgehunter for introducing me to the Sawyer 0.1 micron water filter. It is a perfect match with my MSR Dromedary Bag. I purchased the Hydration Kit for the bag and the Shower Kit for it as well. This setup gives me tons of options for my summer hikes to include a very light weight and small amount of space.

we have been using bottled water because someone said well water with softener would kill the plants, the cost is getting to much for bottled water,so I need to hear from someone who would really KNOW,not just guessing. there are just too many plants to risk losing.

We have a sump pump in our basement. Our washer drains into it as well as water from our water softener system each time it charges. From what I’ve read, this was done because the sewer pipes are above the level of the washer drain. We live in a split level built in the 70′s. Lately our pump has been overflowing and I have to manually lift the float, and then the pump starts. There is quite a bit of rust built up around the float. Could it be sticking from this? Power is working, because it will start if I lift it manually. Also, sometimes if it does begin to drain on its own it won’t quit running. I have to go down and push the float down to make it stop. Any ideas on what’s going on with my piece of junk house?
